Improplay Performance
I imagine, You imagine, We imagine…
Improplay performance creates a magical world through dance, improvisation and play. This 30 minute performance work is for traditional theatre spaces/studio theatres. It is performed by a cast of up to 6 Professional Dancers and 12 local children aged 4-6yrs from the local community. With music by Wilfred Kimber. The creation process and performance aims to provide a transformational experience for a targeted group of children and families taking part, particularly those new to dance.
The most empowering work with children I have ever seen. The quality of care, sensitivity and imaginative creativity produced live in the moment of improvised performance by the performers, who are both young children and dance artists working together, is outstanding. The Improplay practice allows children and dance artists alike to be their most playfully imaginative selves.
Brilliant project. Our children took part in taster workshops, then joined rehearsals with the artists, had an inspiring visit to the theatre practising on stage and then performed and outlived all expectation.
New experiences and Inspiration!
Our school partnerships enable a target group of children to take part in after school rehearsals, 1-1 support and have the opportunity to go on a school trip to theatre to rehearse and perform.
This opportunity supports children’s development to the next level. The team document the process with the children making creative logs allowing teachers and families to integrate the experience and learning back into their daily lives at home and in the classroom.
Receive support
Children receive 1-1 individual and group support during the creative process’.
Watching the dancers and children perform Improplay was one of my all-time career highlights. This performance transcended the well-worn ‘ah’ moment we can experience whilst children perform. The communication between dancers and children was so well understood that it allowed the children to tap into something deeper at their core, more free and more beautiful – something that often gets lost when introducing children to a steps or dance genres.
